The actress, 35, was asked by Romesh Ranganathan, who hosts the revamped BBC hit, to identify which month matched the surname of a legendary Top Gear presenter.

Romesh was stunned at the length of time it took her to answer the question, along with the other guest stars

She was shown an image of James May, whose surname is of course the correct answer, but Helen took her time to figure out who the huge star was, leaving some of the other contestants baffled.

As the image was shown, Romesh asked Helen: “Look at your screen, this TV presenter shares his surname with which month of the year?”

The Corrie star took a long pause as she contemplated her answer to the question, leaving other guest stars baffled.

South London rapper Konan, from duo Krept and Konan, looked stunned as Helen continued to think about her answer.

After a pause of over 20 seconds, the star finally landed at the answer, May.

Romesh confirmed the answer was correct, with a squealing Helen emphatically saying “YES” in celebration.

The awkward moment left Konan in stitches as he was the next star to be asked a question.

Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh, who does the voiceover for the show, said: “Helen took so long to get the month question that I had enough time to make a cup of tea and go to the shop for biscuits – but she did get it right in the end.”

She eventually expressed her shock after receiving the most number of votes, following her blunder.

Helen said: “Wow – that is so bad, I am so shocked. I got the main question right.”

Comedian Tim Vine, who voted for her, said: “The thing that made me do it was just before a correct answer when you waited for, I think, six minutes. It was quite a long time.”

“But did I get that answer right?” the actress responded.

“Yes, but the clock was going down,” Tim said.

Romesh added: “If it makes you feel any better she seems pretty chilled about it”.

“Danny should be going,” Helen slammed. “I answered it right. Yes, I took a little bit but I thought about the question.”

Romesh said: “You went through the whole year. You said May and it felt like the duration of the month of May with how long you spent deliberating. It was such a long time. I genuinely thought ‘has Helen forgotten there is a clock?’”

The awkward moment caused Konan to break into laughter as he was asked the next question

“I did, I really did,” Helen replied.

While Helen’s hilarious moment marked the end of her Weakest Link stint, she did fare better than her previous experience on the show.

Last year, when appearing on the celebrity version of the iconic show, Helen was asked by Romesh: “In geology, the White Cliffs of Dover are principally formed of what substance, chalk or cheese?”

She responded with the answer cheese, which was incorrect, and saw her mocked on social media.

The former Corrie actress had a similarly embarrassing stint on the show last year after believing the White Cliffs of Dover were partially formed of cheese
